Two South Africans and a Nigerian were remanded into lawful custody by the Accra High Court on charges of possessing more than 16 kg of the narcotic substance methamphetamine. This comes after Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) officers arrested them on January 20, 2025, at Kotoka International Airport. The drugs were allegedly hidden in two luggage by the accused (names omitted). The accused, all of whom were women, were remanded to appear on February 11, 2025 by the court, which was presided over by Justice Mrs. Kizita Koowa Quarshie. However, because the facts and accusations were not brought forth, it did not accept their pleas. The trial judge also requested that the defendants hire attorneys to them in court.

Nonetheless, Mr. Watkins Adamah, a Senior State Attorney, asked the court to return the defendants to detention. "To cause the first, second, and third accused persons to be remanded into the custody of the NACOC pending investigations is our humble prayer this morning." "They were found in possession of identical suitcases which contained over 16 kg methamphetamine, a narcotic drug, concealed in their suitcases," Mr. Adamah ruled, the first and second accused being South Africans who traveled to Ghana via Rwanda.
According to him, "the third accused, a Nigerian who had traveled from Nigeria to Ghana, was arrested after a control delivery involving the first and second accused led to her meeting the first and second accused with similar suitcases to exchange them for the narcotic drugs." According to the State Attorney, additional investigation was required since other individuals had been mentioned and NACOC was interested in the case. He stated that the Ghana Standards Authority would also be requested by the State to verify the type of narcotics recovered from the defendants. As a result, the accused was remanded by the court for two weeks.
