Jerry John Rawlings, the former president of Ghana, passed away at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra on Thursday morning, November 12, 2020, at the age of 73.On Thursday morning, November 12, 2020, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra, former Ghanaian President Jerry John Rawlings passed away at the age of 73.
Before the tragic event, Mr. Rawlings had been admitted to Korle Bu for around a week due to an unexplained illness. The birthdate of Mr. Rawlings was June 22, 1947. The last time Mr. Rawlings was spotted in public was on October 24, 2020, when his mother, Madam Victoria Agbotui, was buried after passing away in September 2020 at the age of 101.
In 1979, while Ghana was experiencing socioeconomic deterioration, Jerry John Rawlings made his political debut. Flt Lt JJ Rawlings, a young Air Force fighter pilot who led a country through crises, recognized the importance of "leading from the front" and encouraged a new political awakening among Ghanaians.
The Ghanaian leader with the longest tenure is still Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings. He was elected First President of the Fourth Republic from 1992 to January 2001, served as Chairman of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) from June to September 1979, and chaired the PNDC from December 1981 to January 1992.
